At this point, your goals and objectives are known and understood, and your plan is beginning to take shape. The next step will be to introduce you to the franchise that is of interest to you and meets your objectives. You will gain in-depth knowledge of the business model, and you will have many opportunities to ask questions of people in various roles within the franchise organization. You will also be able to speak with existing franchise owners. These conversations are valuable as you gain an insider's look and perspective on the opportunity to determine if you can see yourself thriving at a given franchise.

We encourage you to evaluate all the business models, compare and contrast them, and be careful not to discount a business until you have all the information. Often the first glance does not paint the whole picture. Learning the numbers and examining the operation is likely to reveal some impressive potential that you may overlook.

As your selection process narrows, you will be receiving an FDD from a franchisor. The purpose of the Franchise Disclosure Document is to provide prospective franchisees with information about the franchisor, the franchise system, and the agreements they will need to sign so that they can make an informed decision. The FDD will also contain a list of franchisees and their contact information. We recommend that you speak with as many franchisees as you can to gain an understanding of what it's like to operate a franchise unit in their system.

It is essential to ask the right questions to both existing and past franchisees. We will make sure you are well prepared regarding questions to ask and topics to discuss. This step is an excellent opportunity to learn valuable information from existing franchisees about all facets of running their business.

Consulting with a trusted attorney and accountant to represent your interests is a critical step before deciding to purchase any business. We recommend that the professionals you choose have a background working in the franchise industry. At your request, we can make recommendations for you to consider.

Most franchisors have either an in-person or a remote Discovery Day, where they invite prospective franchisees to visit a specific franchise location. At Discovery Day, a candidate will gather critical information to assist them in making their final decision. Candidates will meet with various key members of the organization that will be responsible for training and supporting you in the operation of your franchise business.
